Pakistan’s former prime minister and incarcerated Imran Khan has called on his supporters to “fight till the end” as the government rules out talks with his party saying “we won’t negotiate with terrorists”.
Khan did not show significant interest in communication with the government neither did he do so in the past. His party and their supporters’ goals are focused upon Khan’s release and his reinstatement.
While Khan is the top favourite of the country, critics accuse him of taking impulsive decisions jeopardising the country’s safety. His protests have been known to cause riots like they did on May 9, 2023 — due to which it is a sensitive subject today. The chaos also caused a huge stock market crash in Pakistan on November 26, 2024 according to local channel ARY news.
Security forces on Tuesday clashed with supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party who broke through barriers as they marched towards the centre of the locked-down capital, Islamabad, in an attempt to stage a sit-in. Security forces pushed the protestors back and warned if they were to come any closer to the red zone that they would be in serious danger.
When Khan’s protest was announced, highways were shut and the government significantly slowed down internet services in majority of the Punjab province. These acts of insecurity, [as many have put it] do not make the public like the government any less than they already do.
Pakistan’s security forces have now driven supporters of imprisoned former Prime Minister Imran Khan from Islamabad following a sweeping crackdown overnight.
Authorities reopened roads linking the capital with the rest of the country, ending a four-day lockdown, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said on Wednesday, confirming that the city had been cleared.
The current Pakistani government consisting of a coalition between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Nawaz League (PML-N) are seen as no less than ‘dynasties’ formed between ideals of nepotism and power hungry individuals. None of which is done while keeping the country’s best interest at heart.
There is something wrong with the government when top most positions are handed to people who are all related. The public sees it and they naturally shift towards Imran Khan regardless of the flaws he or his party possess.
