Opinion | There is no reason remaining for Israel to continue its’ war on Gaza besides killing more Palestinians.
Israeli journalist and Haaretz columnist Gideon Levy explained it perfectly, that this is all about mass murder. All Hamas leaders are assassinated, Hezbollah leaders have been eliminated, what more does Israel have to gain from the constant killing of Palestinian journalists? Nothing but ethnic cleansing.
The sad truth is, Israel is not trying to hide it. Their actions make it perfectly that they’re interested in the mass killing of Palestinians. Why? Because there is no Israel as long as there is a Palestine. Apartheid cannot work for the long haul, therefore the Israeli occupation sought to resort to more extreme measures, such as genocide and ethnic cleansing.
These words are used very carefully as they hold a legal weight in the world— but we wouldn’t just stop at ethnic cleansing or genocide, we would take it as further as a holocaust. Here’s how:
Ethnic Cleansing
Ethnic cleansing is the systematic forced removal of ethnic, racial, or religious groups from a given area, with the intent of making the society ethnically homogenous. Everything Israel is doing from the denial of Palestinian existence to the demolishment of their homes in the occupied West Bank is a testament to this.
Genocide
Genocide is the deliberate killing of a large number of people from a particular nation or ethnic group with the aim of destroying that nation or group. Everything Israel is doing from their top most leaders, military commanders, settlers, to civilians mimic this very intent of genocide.
One example out of many— Israel’s national security minister Itamar Ben-Gvir went on record and awarded the military officer who shot an 8-year-old Palestinian boy, Adam Samer al-Ghoul and his 15-year-old friend Basil Suleiman Abu al-Wafa while they were playing in their backyard. This example is one out of hundreds and thousands mimicking genocidal intent from the highest officers of government to settlers who burn down Palestinian homes in the West Bank while babies are inside.
A Holocaust
The word 'holocaust' comes from ancient Greek and means 'burnt offering'. Even before the Second World War, the word was sometimes used to describe the death of a large group of people. It is referred to the destruction or slaughter on a mass scale, especially caused by fire or nuclear war.
Israel is conducting a holocaust on the people of Gaza in more ways than one.
27 May 2024
Israeli jets dropped bombs on the makeshift camp, causing a fire that burned some 14 tents in a designated safe zone in Rafah. The fire left hundreds of charred bodies including a baby’s head blown off due to the attack.
14 October 2024
Israel attacked the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital complex where video evidence of four people engulfed in flames while they were still attached to IV drips shook people to the core. 19-year-old Shaban al-Dalou’s hand raised from the flames that engulfed his body is an image of a holocaust.
30 December 2024
Israeli forces raided the Kamal Adwan hospital, one of only three medical facilities on the northern edge of the Gaza Strip, on Friday, ordering dozens of patients and hundreds of others to evacuate the compound, officials said. “The occupation forces are inside the hospital now and they are burning it,” Munir Al-Bursh, director of the health ministry in Gaza, said. Kamal Adwan is one of the last remaining functioning hospitals in Gaza.
There is an Al Jazeera headline about this that sums it up perfectly, it says, “When burning hospitals is no longer news”.
