“Is there a UN Charter for Israel and other one for the rest of us? What the hell does Israel need to do more?”

Fourteen countries in the UN Security Council ‘worked tirelessly’ to draft and vote in favour of a ceasefire resolution for Gaza. The resolution demanded an “unconditional ceasefire” and release of hostages held in Gaza. Somehow that was not enough for the United States.

The U.S. said they will not agree to an “unconditional ceasefire” as it would do a disservice to the hostages held in Gaza, even though the only time Israeli hostages were released were during the previous ceasefire deal in 2023. There are also thousands of Palestinians held without charge in Israeli “prisons” that could easily be deemed torture chambers, yet the Palestinians are not called hostages, they’re called “prisoners”.

“Maybe for some people we have the wrong nationality, the wrong skin colour, the wrong faith, but we are humans,” says the Deputy Palestinian Ambassador to the UN, Made Bamya, frustrated and angry with the unimaginable double standard.

This vote marks fourth time Joe Biden’s administration has vetoed a UNSC Gaza ceasefire resolution since Israel’s war began.

While the resolution called for the release of captives held in Gaza, Washington had voiced opposition to its demand for an “unconditional” ceasefire.

It has been said before but Far Media will say it again, the U.S. is not a trustworthy mediator for a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza. The United States stands solely with Israel, they do not have the best interest for Palestinians. It goes without saying that when it comes to the U.S., Israel can do no wrong. So how would this ever be a fair negotiation?

“We made clear throughout negotiations that we could not support an unconditional ceasefire that failed to release the hostages,” Robert Wood, the deputy US envoy to the UN, said during the session in New York, even though the resolution did ask for the release of captives.

“What the hell does Israel need to do more?” asked the Palestinian ambassador to the UN.
